The Mallet Head Series returns to the University of Washington School of Music concert series this year beginning with Professor Tom Collier performing with two guest artists, drummer/percussionist Alex Acuña and electric bassist Dan Dean. Acuña was a vital member of the famed jazz group Weather Report and has since performed and recorded with a wide variety of artists including Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Lee Ritenour, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Beck, and U2 to name a few! Dan Dean and Tom Collier have been playing music together since the mid-1960's and have recorded two critically-acclaimed albums together, Whistling Midgets (with Acuña playing drums) in 1981 and Duets in 2005. Dean's recent album, 2-5-1, appeared on the national radio play charts and has received a lot of attention in the jazz press.
